A Community Treatment Order (CTO), under the Mental Health Act, is a tool intended to assist someone in complying with psychiatric treatment while in the community. A CTO is a treatment and care plan that outlines care specific to needs, and may include, but is not limited to: medication compliance, support to attend appointments (legal and mental health), as well as assistance with independent Life Skills The Supportive Community Treatment Order Program started as a pilot program for Edenbridge Family Services and Alberta Health Services – Addiction and Mental Health in 2011. The Supportive CTO Program is for individuals, often with complex needs, in Alberta Health Services Southwest Zone who are meet AHS eligibility criteria and may require additional mental health supports.
